2024 NewsletterThe Chequamegon Archery Club was created in 1987. Membership and participation have fluctuated throughout the years. How many of you can remember back to the early years? I remember having to park down the road and wait for my turn to go out on the course. I remember the BIG Banquets in March. I remember so many of our members being much younger. Some of us have kids and grandkids shooting with us now.
I bring up memories in a time of reflection. Looking back at the past. What the club has been and what it will be. There have been so many who have had a hand in what we have done. Many have aged, some have passed. The surrounding communities have supported us over the years. This past year we had two large donations (The Elks and Lulich Equipment) that allowed us to purchase compound bows, crossbows, and accessories. A second purchase that was made possible was replacing the pull behind mower with a lawn tractor. UPCOMING MEETING: Annual Meeting on January 16, 2024, at 6:00 pm. Veterans Center Chequamegon Memorial Post VFW located at 211 6th St. W., Ashland, WI 54806 Meetings have historically had low attendance from non-board members. We as a club invite everyone to bring ideas and more to these meetings. What can we do for you and our community? The Annual Meeting begins with a general meeting. We will look at setting dates and events for 2024. Elections for board members will be held. After the general meeting and elections, the board will meet for the election of officers. A LOOK AHEAD: Do we hold a one or two-day archery tournament? What weekend would work best? What are we doing for the Outdoor 3D League? Will other community programs need our facility or equipment? These are a few of the things we look at throughout the year. We have a relatively strong number of memberships. We see a lot of individual use of the facility. How can we get the camaraderie up? We have the outdoor league. Do we open more days to shooting or do we restrict the number of days to shoot? What could we do before or after a day of shooting? These and more, are questions addressed at our meetings. FALL FESTIVAL: Mark your calendar for the Fall Festival, August 17, 2024. If you’d like to help in any capacity, please reach out to us. ELECTIONS: There are seven (7) Board Members along with two (2) Junior Board Members. The Board then elects the four (4) Officers. YOUR CLUB, YOUR RANGE: Let’s try to find a way to make the club fun for everyone and get more participation and use out of the club. Do we do that with our leagues or shoots? What about a poker or cribbage night? Let us know what you’d like to do! VOLUNTEERING: When you fill out a membership, there is a list of things you may be interested to do within the club. Think of that, could you help mow the lawn? Could your kids use the time for Service Learning? There is a slew of things that you could do, at and for, your club. SUMMER 3D LEAGUE: League usually starts the first weekend of June and runs 12 weeks. Two shooters per team. There is a handicap used to even scores out, so it doesn’t matter how well you shoot. Hopefully you are shooting to have fun and to get better. So, find a partner and sign up for a fun time. We hope to have weekly giveaways during the season. We have been thinking of making a change to the Summer 3D League. Currently the league runs for 12 weeks. We are looking at splitting it up into two sessions, early and late. What would the dates be? June through early July and Late August through September? PHOTOS: All members are encouraged to submit photos of harvests or any other activities that promotes the sport of archery. |
